InCUBATE Residency

MEDIAreport // Wednesdays from 7-10 pm (July 2, 9, 16, 23)

These sessions will use book report assignments as a way to analyze popular media. Participants will complete assignments for any books, magazines, televisions shows or movies they consume. At the end of the month we will present our findings for an event at InCUBATE.

Anyone is welcome to attend. Materials and some refreshments will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring supplies to share.

SWEATtime // Tuesdays from at 9-10 pm (July 8, 15, 22, 29)

Get buff and tuff every Tuesday by working out to old fitness videos like Jane Fonda, Rock Hard Abs, Richard Simmons and Buns of Steel. Dress up as your favorite fitness star or bring your own workout tape.

After the workout we will revitalize with fresh fruit and vegetable juice made with a juicer! Bring fruits and veggies to share (some will be provided).

Hideous Beast will prepare a tasty soup for InCUBATE’s ongoing Sunday Soup project. All the profit from soup sales goes toward a monthly grant. Proposals for Soup Grants are open to anyone. The grants are awarded by votes from those who bought soup during the month.

PowerPoint Extreme! Workshop // Wednesday, July 9, 7-10 pm

PowerPoint Extreme!: Groups and Spaces // Thursday, July 17, 8-10 pm

PowerPoint Extreme! is an evening of performances that brings PowerPoint out of the office and into the art space, addressing the weirdness, tedium, and sheer ubiquity of this medium. What the hell needs to be explained by a PowerPoint slideshow? – OR – What isn’t PowerPoint good for?

For this event we are inviting Chicago artist groups and spaces to present their endeavor through an offbeat use of PowerPoint. We encourage twisted applications of PowerPoint’s structure and aesthetics, especially as they pertain to the group or space’s particular interests. If you are involved in a Chicago-based artist group or space and would like to participate, please contact us!

The workshop will provide technical assistance in creating PowerPoint slideshows as well as examples of alternative uses of the medium.
