ODDJOBS

Hideous Beast’s ODDJOBS provides a full range of artist services. Need some help realizing your art projects? Hideous Beast can help you bring your ideas to their fullest potential. We are two kind, intelligent, experienced and hardworking artists looking for work.

We organize-it, clean-it, fix-it, paint-it, haul-it, build-it, install-it and generally get-it done.

We are both resourceful individuals with a range of abilities, including carpentry, general construction, graphic/web design, and creative advising. We are qualified to assist various art methods, including but not limited to photography, painting, sculpture, new media, performance, print-making, installation and social practice. The character and degree of our service will be determined through conversation with each artist.

In exchange for our assistance we will document our services and any associated activities. This documentation will be presented as our own work. We will also negotiate with each artist a means by which to acknowledge Hideous Beast’s role in the production of the project.

Fix09
FIX09
Belfast, Ireland

FIX09 explores the concept of collaboration, offering a vibrant and fresh outlook on live art, provoking thought on audience participation. FIX09 is the 8th incarnation of the Belfast biennial and provides a dynamic series of individual and collaborative works, presentations, workshops, screenings and interventions. Established in 1994, FIX has an international reputation for presenting emerging and established national and international artists. More info here – http://fixcatalyst.wordpress.com

During the first annual Culture Night in Belfast, we helped Catalyst launch the FIX09 festival by presenting a version of SWEATtime. This version asked audience members to demonstrate an exercise move they would like to see as part of a compiled exercise video available for download. Here is some documentation and a quick version of the video.

Below is documentation of a series of ODDJOBS performed for the festival.

Open Engagement
Open Engagement: Making Things, Making Things Better, Making Things Worse (http://openengagement.info)
May 14-17, 2010 in Portland, OR

Below is a short description and photo documentation of a series of ODDJOBS performed during the conference.

Prior to the conference we publicized our project to its organizers and participants. We had a variety of responses from contributing artists such as graphic design, solicitation, material acquisition, and general consultation/ideation support. This kept us busy for the weeks leading up to the conference. During the conference we quickly became go-to support when extra hands needed. This entailed running errands, flyering, waiting tables as dinner staff, connecting people interested in meeting, interviewing participants, and art handling. This is a list of artists we either performed an ODDJOBS, or attempted to:

Rodrigo Marti, Cecilia de Jong Jespersen, Brian Collier, Sara Black and John Preus, Hannah Miami, Leif Hedendal, Sandy Sampson, Dawn Renae Weleski, Blair Fornwald, InCUBATE, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Brette Gabel, Vicki Wilson, Jennifer Delos Reyes.
